I'm a little worried. This is Spooky Empire's first celebrity poker charity tournament and I will be hosting the event.
It began 8 months ago. My friends Petey & Gina whom I've known since their first convention which took place 8 years ago with the attendance of only 500 people in Fort Lauderdale, have now generated over 10,000 people.
To my surprise they came to me for help and asked if I'd assist them this year. I was flattered and delighted. I excepted.
I suggested that we should start promoting outside of our realm, keep it in the industry however step outside of the box a little. I mentioned to them that with my experience working with the Halloween Haunted Attraction Industry there were many vendors we could acquire like Mask Maker Vendors, Costume Design Vendors, Special FX Makeup Distributors, etc. Needless to say they gave it try.
Another idea that I suggested was a celebrity poker charity tournament. It would've been a unique and genuine idea for the horror convention industry, and accomplishable considering the fact that we have multiple celebrities already attending the convention signing autographs anyway. It would have been another way to make revenue, and of course, a new an exciting element to the convention!
Alas, we have 2 days left to the first day of the convention. I'm nervous and excited. I'm nervous because I'm hoping we sell most of our seats for the poker tournament at the convention since by now we haven't sold too many. I'm excited, because do to my travels this past year in promoting Spooky Empire and passing out flyers at different Haunted Attraction Tradeshows, a few vendors have purchased space at the convention!
Many vendors from the Haunted Attraction Industry will be attending Spooky Empire for the first time as attendees, which is just as rewarding. We will be the first horror convention in the country to take the leap in connecting both the Haunted Attraction Industry with a Horror Convention........results to be posted next week. Wish me luck!

If the event is a success it will all be worth it. What methods have been used to promote?

Why have you not used any direct client marketing? Is the problem that you are not sure who the specific clients (attendees) will be?
ReplyDeleteWe know who the specific clients will be for the horror convention. However, for the poker tournament I confided in three - four poker companies and they all said the same thing. We wont get sign ups until the very last minute. Which is exactly what happended. We did pitched the tournament during our commercial on the radio, in Orlando. Poker is an entirely different element, it's difficult to get the word out without spending too much money or hiring a third party promoter.
